Facial Vein & Rosacea Treatments

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a skin condition that can cause permanent redness and irritation of the skin. Rosacea can affect the skin of the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. Some types of rosacea can affect the ears, back, and chest as well.

Rosacea can cause a wide range of symptoms, including:

  • Redness and flushed appearance
  • Broken blood vessels, or spider veins
  • Stinging or burning skin pain
  • Acne
  • Very sensitive skin
  • Dry, rough, or scaly skin

Middle-aged, fair-skinned people of Scandinavian or Celtic descent are at highest risk for having rosacea. A family history of rosacea is also a significant risk factor for having this skin disorder.

What causes visible facial veins?

Small, thin, visible blood vessels that appear on the face are called spider veins. These veins are very common, and, while they are not a medical problem, they can be embarrassing and unsightly.

Some causes for the appearance of facial veins include:

  • Rosacea
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Genetics and family history
  • Sun damage
  • Pregnancy
  • Exposure to environmental irritants
  • Skin injury, such as abrasions

Usually, spider veins do not go away on their own. Thankfully, Dr. Sikking offers a noninvasive treatment to diminish the appearance of broken or visible blood vessels, as well as other side effects of rosacea.

How can Cynosure Icon treat rosacea and facial veins?

Cynosure Icon laser treatment uses therapeutic light energy to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin, stimulating new cell and tissue growth. Utilizing the body’s natural healing process, new tissue replaces the old, damaged tissues. This improves the color and texture of your skin, as well as diminishes the appearance of facial veins brought on by rosacea and other underlying causes.

Cynosure Icon treatments take around 15-30 minutes and use a handheld device, which is applied directly to the problem areas of your skin.

While you may see some immediate improvement, your best results will be seen after a week or more. Usually, a full course of treatment includes three to six Icon sessions, with a few weeks between each.
